Notes
A note is text you write about a book. It can be about a term, a character, a concept, a chapter’s gist, or a reflection. Highlights store the author’s text. Notes store your own.
Every note belongs to at least one book. It can link to that book’s chapters, highlights and tags.
Writing a note
Section titled “Writing a note”Open a book’s Notes tab and create a note. A note has:
- A title.
- A kind: Character, Term, Concept, Gist, Reflection or Other. The kind is optional. You can filter notes by kind.
- A body, written in Markdown.
- Chapters it is about, chosen from the book’s table of contents.
- Tags. You can create new tags as you type.
A Gist note is short: one or two sentences about what a chapter says, in your own words. A Reflection note is one of the four answers in a book reflection.
Linking notes
Section titled “Linking notes”- From a highlight or a chapter, add a new note or link an existing one.
- A note shows everything it is linked to. You can remove any link.
For example, write a Term note about a word the author uses, and link it to the highlights where the word appears.
Finding notes
Section titled “Finding notes”The Notes tab has a semantic search field that finds notes by meaning. You can also filter by note kind and by tag.
When you open a note, you can:
- go to the previous or next note
- copy its content or a link to it
- edit or delete it
- make flashcards from it
